Our Mission Statement:
To provide educational and awareness programs that support the prevention of child maltreatment.
The purpose of Child Abuse Prevention Services of Tuscaloosa is to provide education and awareness programs for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.CAPS provides prevention and treatment education in an effort to break the cycle of child maltreatment, so that children can have a healthy childhood. We offer school and community based programs. We provide our services to Pre K-12th grade students in Tuscaloosa County and City School systems. Through our community based prevention programs we provide educational programs: Shaken Baby Syndrome, Nurturing Parenting classes, Nurturing Baby/Safe Sleep program, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Understanding Prenatal Drug Exposure, Sudden unexplained Infant Death and Signs of Child Abuse and How to Report. All of our community programs are offered to various clubs, groups, agencies, recovery shelters, and organizations. We receive referrals for our Nurturing Parenting and Nurturing Baby/Safe Sleep programs from local agencies and courts. Our school-based programs are delivered in the classrooms of local schools in 30 to 40 minutes.
